Coming soon! BDQCustom will be a clean, fast and beautiful OPEN-SOURCE content management system developed under the Kohana PHP framework.

At the beginning of this year, we made a new goal for BDQWorks to make more people become aware of our expert web application development (programming) services. With this new goal, we made a couple of major decisions.

BDQCustom CMS
Our biggest decision of the year is to create a user-version of the custom CMS that we're using for this website (http://bdqworks.com). This CMS will be open source meaning that it will be free for anyone to download and use without any restrictions. The user version of BDQCustom is still unfinished but it will be released open source as soon as it's ready.

However, we will continue to create WordPress and Drupal websites and create modules and web applications for WordPress and Drupal. This just means that our customers will have the choice to create a WordPress, Drupal or a BDQCustom CMS website with us.

So why would anyone use our CMS instead of WordPress or Drupal?
First, let me clarify that we have absolutely no intention to compete with WordPress or Drupal and our customers are free to use any CMS they choose. BDQCustom is just a basic CMS web application with the most necessary CMS features. We will take BDQCustom and program several web applications on top of it in order to create a completely customized CMS. This means that every BDQCustom CMS we create for our clients will be unique with different web applications.

For example, we created this website (http://bdqworks.com) on our own CMS because we had very specific needs. All of our accounting, invoice/payment history, online payments and website hosting renewals are done through our web application which is exclusive to BDQWorks. There are no existing web applications that does all of this so we just created one for ourselves. If you are in a similar situation, BDQCustom would be a perfect CMS choice for you.

BDQCustom is for you if:
You want basic CMS features to support your web application.
You want a website that is faster than Drupal or WordPress.
You want a CMS that is completely customized.

New PHP framework - goodbye Codeigniter, hello Kohana!
Our next big decision was our PHP framework choice. We have been using the Codeigniter PHP framework for a very long time despite our dissatisfaction. We finally decided to say goodbye to Codeigniter and make the big jump to Kohana in 2012.

This means that we are currently in progress of converting all web application programming codes on the current BDQCustom CMS into the Kohana language. It's cumbersome that we have to rewrite all of our programming codes but this was the best decision in the long-term because Codeigniter is full of unnecessary "help" that we didn't need and Kohana is much faster than Codeigniter.

Our first BDQCustom project
Our first BDQCustom project is for Kudos Home & Design (our client from last year) and Ekornes Stressless (the largest furniture manufacturer in the Nordic region.) We will be creating a beautiful micro-website about the Ekornes Stressless furniture on the BDQCustom CMS.

Please be aware that even though we will be using the BDQCustom CMS for a lot of our projects from now on, the open-source version of our BDQCustom CMS will not be available for download until later this year.
